| Tents
without poles have arrived!
Tents which
use inflatable 'air beams' instead of aluminium
poles have debuted at the latest Salt Lake City
gear show in the US, and the makers say they're
stronger, easier to use and less prone to
breakage. If they're as good as they say they're
sure to make the hop across the pond soon. Built
by American firm Nemo the new range of
backpacking tents pack down smaller than tents
with metal poles and come with integral
lightweight pumps that turn your breath into gust
powerful enough to inflate the air beams to the
necessary 7-9 psi. When properly inflated, say
Nemo, the air beams are even stronger than
aluminium in withstanding wind. The pictured
3-season, 2/3 person backpacking tent 'Morpho'
costs $565 and weighs a competitive 2.6kg
including pump. Source
