Wild camping in the
mountains is extremely rewarding
and exciting. It has to be the
ultimate outdoor adventure
experience.
Your requirements
are substantially increased
because you will need to carry
all your own provisions to last
out the night and next day. This
means heavier packs, slower
travel, more food intake, more
fluid intake, etc.
A good mountain tent
(not urban) which can stand up to
high winds and heavy rain is
essential, as well as sleeping
bag and sleeping mat. Cooking
pans and a good lightweight stove
is also essential if you are to
keep your belly full of hot
dinner, for more details on gear
you might need for wild camping click here.
Snowdonia, Brecon
beacons & Preseli mountains
are the locations normally used
for these activities. You will
travel deep into the mountains
before setting up your camp and
then maybe take in a peak to
watch the sunset in peace while
all other day trekkers have long
since vanished. In the morning
you awake to the sound of a
burbling brook or a skylarks song
or even the sound of a gentle
breeze on a mountain lake high
above the hustle and bustle of
the daily grind. A truly life
enhancing experience.

But always be
prepared for the wind and rain!
There's nothing like
being out in the elements when
you are totally prepared and
dressed for the occasion and
comfortable no matter what the
weather throws at you. Put your
Gortex to the test! See how good
your 3/4 season boots really are!
Wild camping
gives you that valuable
experience which helps you in
your future hillwalking
activities and will save you
those extra pennies the next time
you visit that outdoor gear
store, you
will know what you
need and what works; the
salesperson won't talk you into
buying that piece of kit that you
will never use, you will know!
