What to expect on a
typical group day trek in the
Welsh mountains:
Group meets at start
location at approx 9.30am for
briefing.
Group departs at
approx 10.15am walking at a slow
and steady pace to get those
muscles warmed up.
After about 20-30
mins a quicker pace can be
achieved bearing in mind that the
beginning of a trek can sometimes
be fairly steep and tiring, then
a 30 minute break at around
12.00am.
The group will
always stay together, decisions
will be made as a group e.g time
of next break and so on. A strong
bond will naturally form between
members and a jolly but sensible
attitude will be felt by all.
At least 1 major
peak (summit) will be achieved on
route.
The length of the
trek could be between 4 and 12
miles depending on group
requirements and conditions that
day. The mountain leader reserves
the right to stop and retreat off
the hill if conditions are too
extreme and too dangerous to
continue.
The duration of the
day trek will normally be between
5 and 7 hours.
After breathtaking
views and a good work out you
will feel a sense of satisfaction
and elation on your return to
civilisaton.
Conditions underfoot
Steep, rough ground
is expected and maybe some
exposed ridges as well as clear
trodden paths so adequate
comfortable footware is
essential. It is always best to
'wear in' your new walking boots
well before taking to the
mountains as blisters can form
easily if your feet have not been
used to your boots. So firm up
those soft feet and get used to
your walking boots!
Weather conditions
Welsh mountain
weather can be anything from
sunny & bright to rainy &
wet, but will almost certainly be
windy & cold. Again adequate
clothing is essential - click here for more
info. You will feel warm, even
hot most of the time, this is due
to walking, but as soon as you
stop for a break your body
temperature will take a sudden
dive as you cool down and you
will feel cold and clammy
especially if its windy, a nice
warm fleece and a hat will sort
this out.
The use of cameras
is welcomed, capturing your
special day on film is an
important part of the experience.
